Georgina Hoare
I offer both short and long term counselling and psychotherapy to adults in Wimbledon. I am an approved training Psychotherapist for Birkbeck students as well as other training institutions, following my training completed in 2003. I also offer individual and group supervision to arts therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists.
I’m experienced in working with children and adults with a range of difficulties, having worked in the NHS, Education and Voluntary sector as well as in private practice for ten years prior to taking up senior management roles. Through these experiences I have worked as a therapist with people with a range of medical diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, psychosis, eating disorders and addiction, as well as those with forensic backgrounds, learning disabilities or autism too.
That said, the areas of greatest interest for me in the context of working in my private practice are in working with and supporting people who are or have experienced major life cycle transitions and losses (such as pregnancy, miscarriage, menopause, grief, redundancy), trauma or abuse. Within the psychodynamic approach I also consider intersectionality at the core of the work too.
I have held senior leadership roles in the voluntary sector, overseeing counselling and psychotherapy services for over twelve years, both as Head of Talking Therapies at Wimbledon Guild, a large local charity and as Director of Clinincial Services at SurvivorsUK, with men who have experienced sexual violation.
I currently have space for a relatively small private practice alongside a management role, my role as a trustee at Carers First and a Pilotlighter with Pilotlight a social enterprise. Therefore this can affect my availability and typically it means I can only offer once weekly therapy too.
