Unconscious Processes in Bilingual Counselling
Dominique Cornwall
In our on-going counselling work we often have clients who speak different languages. In this presentation I will attempt to explain what bilingual work involves, and what it means to work in a different language than our mother tongue. Using case material, I will speak of my understanding of unconscious processes that are taking place in the transference and countertransference and discuss the advantages and pitfalls of being bilingual or working with a bilingual client.
