About the talk:
What is Conversion Therapy?
Conversion therapy refers to any practice that assumes certain sexual orientations or gender identities are inferior and seeks to change or suppress them.
Why is the MoU Important?
The 2017 MoU clearly states that conversion therapy related to gender identity and sexual orientation (including asexuality) is:
- Unethical
Potentially harmful
Not supported by evidence
This document builds on the 2015 MoU, which initially addressed only sexual orientation, and reinforces the commitment to protecting LGBTQ+ individuals from harmful practices.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) [you can check it here.] and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) [you can check it here.] are signatories of the MoU. The Birkbeck Counselling Association (BCA) is a Member Institution (MI) affiliate organisation of the BPC, and the MSc courses are accredited by BACP.

The event is open to Birkbeck Counselling Association (BCA) members and Birkbeck College students & staff only.
