Psychodynamic Practice & Open Space papers
The international journal ‘Psychodynamic Practice’ was inaugurated by the BCA Executive Committee in 1994 to promote psychodynamic thinking and practice in individual counselling and therapy, group and organisational work, and psychodynamic perspectives more widely.
The journal publishes substantial articles which are usually peer reviewed and sometimes talks given from a psychodynamic perspective, more informal open space papers, and book reviews.
Open Space papers may be of particular interest to BCA members This section contains short papers (maximum usually 3,000 words) which reflect a range of themes, preoccupations and experience, including thoughts inspired by longer articles.
Open Space is really well suited to new writers as papers are not peer reviewed but read by its editor who, if appropriate, may offer advice to help the writer in pursuing the paper for publication. These papers are more personal including dynamic reflections on issues in the professional, the arts, culture and the application of psychodynamic ideas to institutions and the wider world.
Journal Working & BCA
The editorial advisory board of the journal is comprised of persons widely drawn from the British and international psychoanalytic world. The journal promotes counselling as a legitimate practice within the range of therapeutic disciplines owing their theoretical orientation to psychoanalysis.
The journal explores the relevance of psychodynamic ideas to different occupational settings. It emphasizes setting and application as well as theory and technique and focuses on four broad areas:
- Clinical practice
- The understanding of group and organisational processes
- The use of psychodynamic ideas and methods in different occupational settings (for example, education and training, health care, social work, pastoral care, management and consultancy)
- The understanding of social, political and cultural issues
The journal aims to make psychodynamic ideas accessible to a broad audience and is a home for new, as well as experienced, writers.
The journal has received a good number of submissions from students (current and recently qualified) and the editorial team is happy to discuss prospective submissions with the author.
