Brief Psychodynamic Counselling & Therapy CPD Event – Bridget Townsend

10:00am - 4:00pm

Date/Time
Date(s) - Saturday, May 11th, 2019
10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Psychodynamically-trained counsellors and psychotherapists face a tension between a training based on long-term, intensive therapy, and a practice often limited to as few as 6 sessions.
This workshop will examine some of the models of time-limited therapy, consider the skills needed for short-term work, and look at how key psychodynamic principles can be used.
In particular we will consider:

• Can short-term psychodynamic therapy benefit all clients?
• What is the impact on the counsellor?
• How can supervision best support this work?

The day will include the presentation and discussion of theoretical ideas, with reflection on case studies. It will be valuable for participants to bring examples from their own experience to discuss.

Bridget Townsend is a psychodynamic psychotherapist, working in organisations and in private practice. She worked in primary practice in the NHS for 10 years. She currently teaches at Birkbeck, the BPF and the Minster Centre.
