Internal Racism: inside and outside the consulting room

Fakhry Davids.

In his talk Fakhry Davids asks, how are we to think about the prominence of division in our
world, following Brexit and Trump? How is it that those who mobilise racist responses in
others remain apparently oblivious to their own racism? He will discuss these aspects of
racism in the outside world and link them with his observations in the consulting room,
drawing on the model of internal racism outlined in his book, ‘Internal Racism A
Psychoanalytic Approach to Race and Difference’ (Palgrave Macmillan).

Fakhry Davids is a Fellow and Training Analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society &
Institute of Psychoanalysis, a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists, Hon
Senior Lecturer in the Psychoanalysis Unit, UCL, Visiting Fellow in the Department of
Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies, University of Essex, and a Board Member of
