Brexit, nationalism, populism:
Where are we now? How did we get here? Where are we going?
Adam Phillips (writer & psychoanalyst)
in conversation with
Nick Barwick (group analyst & professor of counselling)
As 2019 draws to a close, what is the aftermath of a year in the UK consumed with the tortuous twists and turns of Brexit, played out within the wider international context of Populism and Nationalism – times that some historians suggest are reminiscent of the rise of the Third Reich?
The acclaimed writer and psychoanalyst Adam Phillips talks to group analyst Nick Barwick about where we (as individuals and as groups) are, how we got here and where we might be going?
Developing the conversation: There will be opportunities for participants to explore these questions further in both small and large group discussion, whilst those interested in contributing directly to the initial conversation are invited to submit questions/thoughts for exploration, to Mark Davidson at admin@birkbeckcounsellingassociation.org by Friday 1st November. Any such submissions will be used, wherever possible, to inform the developing conversation.
Adam Phillips was formerly a child psychotherapist at Charing Cross Hospital, and is a psychoanalyst and writer. His most recent book is Attention Seeking (Penguin).
